Lab Overview

Counterparts are a Canadian hardcore band founded in 2007 in Hamilton, Ontario which consists of Brendan Murphy, guitarists Alex Re and Blake Hardman, bassist Tyler Williams and drummer Kyle Brownlee. You’re Not You Anymore is their sixth album, but features fresh personnel and perspective, drawing comparisons to brutally technical bands like Poison The Well and Misery Signal. They straddle the line between hardcore and metal but lean towards the more melodic sides of both genres. “Wings of Nightmares” begins with pounding chords and blast-beat drums, Murphy’s harrowing vocals keeping pace with the explosive instrumentation. “Paradise and Plague” is thundering bass riffs and endlessly varied drum fills, “Separate Wounds” begins on a more sombre note but returns to the album’s breakneck pace.
