OVERVIEW

The CDJ-200 is a step up from Pioneer's CDJ-100, bridging the gap between their most basic professional CD player and the higher priced vinyl simulation models. This is an excellent choice for djs who need a high quality cd turntable with dj functions, but don't require scratching ability. You do have a digital jog dial which is fully functional for cuing, beat matching and controlling effects, but scratching is not a possibility with this unit. The CDJ-200 is also much smaller (11" x 8.5") than the vinyl-simulating models, which makes it perfect for traveling and cramped studio spaces.

FEATURES

While the lack of scratching capability will be a drawback to some, the CDJ-200 includes an efficient and useful set of features which will meet the needs of nearly everybody else. Functions include assignable cue point settings, +/-6/10/16 % pitch bend with master tempo control (aka key correction), digital jog break effects (jet, zip and wah), sampling & looping capability with easy to use adjustments, CD-RW and mp3s playback capability with folder search functions, and more. Many of these are either improvements over the CDJ-100 or simply new features.

OUR OPINION

Pioneer continues to be one of the top digital manufacturers, and their cd players are some of the most trusted on the market. The CDJ-200 looks great (people love the blue light), the quality is high, and the relatively small size is very welcome. It still comes in at an excellent price point, and solidifies Pioneer's stake in the market for non-scratch professional cd players.

The CDJ-2000 is Pioneer's new flagship model boasting an impressive list of features and enhancements to the CDJ-1000MK3. This is the top of the line when it comes to CDJ turntables.  Adapting to today's variety of media formats, the CDJ-2000 enables playback of MP3, AAC, WAV and AIFF audio files from CDs and USB memory devices, and from DVDs and SD cards as well on the CDJ-2000. A USB port located on top of the turntable enables users to quickly connect an external storage device such as a Tonium Pacemaker or a hard drive packed with music files, minimizing the need to bring a laptop computer to performances.

Users can then transfer analyzed music files to their preferred storage media and play them directly from the new CDJ turntable. The software offers song information that can be viewed easily during performances on the CDJ's large display to quickly search and access content by genre, title, BPM, etc. Also, as analyzed tracks are played through the CDJ product, the turntable automatically creates and saves a play history enabling users to review past performances on their PCs.

Pioneer's Pro DJ Link that enables up to four CDJ-2000/900s to be connected via the Link Port to share a single music source, whether it is a hard drive, USB and/or SD memory card. Once linked, users have the ability to quickly find, display and choose the music file from a connected source through the CDJ's built-in display and control knobs. A quick turn of the knob lets users scroll through created files and folders and a push of the knob confirms the song choice.

The new turntable feature a 24-bit/48 kHz sound card and HID and MIDI control compatibility via USB port. Up to 35 controls on the surface of the player can be used to trigger other devices, such as DJ effecters and software by way of HID and/or MIDI. The HID controls were implemented into the player for superior interfacing with software, faster communication speed over MIDI, audio/visual streaming and two-way information on the display. HID enables easy, precise and native control of DVS systems such as Serato Scratch Live, Native Instruments' Traktor series and MixVibes Cross2 without the need for time-coded discs.

The HDJ-2000s' 50 mm driver units and high-flux magnets create outstanding resolution, from bass to treble. The HDJ-2000 have the capacity for 3,500 mW of input, which means distortion is prevented, even at sustained loud volumes while the heavy-duty construction ensures zero resonance.

Featuring a lightweight magnesium swivel/fold mechanism, the headphones are robust, comfortable and compact to transport. Each ear-cup gives excellent insulation and swivels a full 90 degrees using a new i-hinge with auto-return, which presents great flexibility. To improve monitoring, there is also a convenient stereo/mono switch and the heat-sensitive, low-rebound urethane-foam (memory-foam) padding with a comfortable protein leather surface cushions the ears and head for a no-fatigue fit: your long sessions in the club or studio are made all the more comfortable. Refined Design

The HDJ-500 DJ headphones adapt the styling and performance cues of Pioneer's top-of-the-line HDJ-2000 headphones. Designed with maximum comfort and reliability in mind, the HDJ-500 headphones use comfortable urethane pads for the ears that allow the headphones to mold around the user's head and ears for a snug and slip-resistant fit. Furthermore, the urethane pads are wrapped in great quality leather, providing greater feel and extended comfort. The main structure of the headphones is crafted of magnesium alloy for light weight and durability, making them great for travel and long periods of use.

The Sound Difference

The HDJ-500's stylish design is matched with great sound quality providing clear audio reproduction, especially in the critical low and mid frequency ranges that are key for remixing. By combining 40 mm diameter drivers, thick 19 (micrometers) diaphragm and a copper clad aluminum wire (CCAW) voice coil, the headphones can efficiently reproduce the lower frequency audio range. Snare and kick drum sounds are more clear making it easier for even the most novice DJs to match the tempo of tracks.

Versatility

For maximum flexibility during performances, the HDJ-500 features a rotating arm structure that allows the user to rotate the right earpiece forward and back by as much as 60 degrees. At that position, the flexible headband maintains enough side pressure to allow the DJ to listen to audio on just one side of the headphones. The headphones include two interchangeable cords providing freedom of movement during performances. The traditional 1.2 meter coiled cord (extends to 3m) is perfect for regular DJ performances, while the 1 meter straight cord is ideal for leisure listening.

The S-DJ05 Active Reference Monitoring Speakers are designed for DJing and music production. These speakers feature excellent sound quality, audio parameter control, built-in linear equalization and four switchable inputs, useful for DJs and producers who need to achieve the highest accuracy in musical reproduction. In addition, the S-DJ05 speakers offer users the ability to change settings such as sound characteristics and audio inputs via a unique manual controller.

Audio Quality

The compact speakers achieve a larger than normal listening area due to the use of a curved waveguide enclosure that directs the soft-dome tweeter's sound in a wider pattern for better imaging and staging. This means more listeners across a larger area of a room can hear the higher frequencies than with traditional designs. Additionally, the Bass Reflex enclosure extends the lower frequency range to provide more mid-bass and bass output. In order to reproduce the highest quality audio possible, the speakers are also equipped with strong high-force magnets for better control of the subwoofers, a low resonance chimney-style heat sink and a bi-amp circuit that drives the tweeter and woofer separately. Whether the speakers are utilized for DJing or producing music,the built-in linear equalizer provides further fine-tuning of sound for all listeners' tastes. The linear equalizer allows users to adjust the low and high bands from -6 dB to +6dB helping to enhance the tonal quality of instruments while producing music or recreate the low frequency sound of a club while DJing for a more realistic experience, important for critical listeners.

Control

Unique to Pioneer's DJ speakers, the included control accessory allows users to simultaneously operate the volume, power and four switchable input channels of both speakers. The dial style control knob also engages the equalizer and muting of both speakers.

Inputs and Extras

The S-DJ05 speakers feature four types of inputs (XLR, TRS and two sets of RCA) that let users connect various devices simultaneously, such as a computer, DJ equipment, portable device, etc. The various inputs eliminate the need to change cable connections so the speakers can be utilized with a broad variety of sources. The speakers also feature an environmentally-friendly Auto Standby feature that automatically detects input signals and switches the standby mode when input is not detected within 60 minutes. For additional functionality, bottom screw holes were implemented for use with commercially available stands.
