Reloop is proud to present its first digital mixing controller designed especially for Serato: Terminal Mix 4. By introducing the Terminal Mix 4, Reloop has broken new ground once again with this fully integrated 4-channel mixer offering a wealth of features, including 3-fold EQ with intelligent kill technique and filter modulation capabilities per channel. Any of the 4 channels can be easily assigned to the crossfader via the controls on the front panel, where you will also be able to adjust the crossfader curve.

In addition to the popular Trax Encoder, the master section is now equipped with four convenient management buttons which allow direct access to playlists, crates or further layout views without the need to touch your laptop. This means a desired track can be located and loaded instantly into any deck via the designated load buttons - a fader start* function can also be activated if desired.

As a further highlight, Reloop has developed brand new ultra-flat aluminium jog platters which with an impressive XXL diameter of 15.5 cm have also been enhanced with a non-slip vinyl-grip coating for even more control over your tracks. With a total of 3 modes (Pitch Bend/Vinyl/Quick Search) it's possible to easily switch between pitch correcting, scratching, or browsing through tracks on the fly. The entire transport section is fully equipped with rubberised buttons which offer a comfortable pressure point whilst also being extremely durable.

The performance section features an extensive 8 button layout which can be utilised over 2 separate layers for true versatility. On the first layer 4 hot cues can be fired off and 4 sample decks can be triggered simultaneously. Depending on the software used, other creative possibilities are available, for example the option of accessing hot cues/samples 5-8 on the second layer - or with future software updates this section can be enhanced even further with brand new performance modes (Cut'n'Slice) for live remixing.

The extensive FX section is equipped with 4 buttons, 3 rotary knobs, and 1 endless encoder to provide even more creative possibilities in the mix. The smart loop section also features 4 independent controls allowing users to quickly set beat-precise loops, adjust the size of the loops and even move the loops whilst in a live situation. Reloop also listened to the requests by many DJs and for the first time has integrated a 14 bit pitch fader with 100mm increments, allowing ultra-precise mixing and blending.

The audio section offers a vast array of connecting possibilities for your master PA (including balanced output jacks), a zone function and a DJ booth system. Also very practical are the 2 headphones connections (6.3 mm & 3.5 mm) which can be adjusted with a 1-band equalizer. A microphone connection with a 1-fold EQ for MCs, hosts or singers has also been integrated and can be adjusted via a flexible routing switching system. Furthermore, it's possible to connect a turntable, CD/MP3 player, or iPhone/iPod to the Aux input which can be routed to the master or even software! Terminal Mix comes 'plug and play' ready with Serato DJ Intro and a Virtual DJ 4-Deck LE (Reloop edition). Traktor Pro 2 mappings are also available.

LAB REVIEW

With the VCI-400, Vestax has decided to forgo the software specific hardware design and go for the an all-out controller that is fully customizable and works well with all the most popular DJ programs (Traktor, Serato DJ Intro, Virtual DJ, Abelton, DJay, and more). Vestax has definitely shifted the focus to high quality functionality with enough controls and features to accommodate future software updates.

The VCI-400 does an excellent job in delivering both the flashy deluxe features (lighted pad controls, LED channel meters, wide assortment of controls) and the solid foundational features (high quality jog controls, XLR outputs, excellent soundcard). In addition, the design is very intuitive with all the controls placed seemingly perfectly and marked clearly. Although there is a lot going on, it all makes sense like the placement of the tempo controls with the deck select directly underneath.

OUR OPINION

Although the price point may be barrier for the beginner or novice DJ, we can see this being a longtime workhorse for the working DJ. The feature set eliminates the need for MIDI add-ons and with its high-quality soundcard and XLR outputs, you're ready to plug it into a club system. In addition, we just love the true 4 channel layout, the filter knobs, and the layout (it definitely borrows from a traditional turntable-mixer setup).

First and foremost this controller is perfectly matched to the vast operation of Native Instruments' Traktor PRO and its 4 decks. However, the Jockey 3 is ideally applicable with any other MIDI compatible software, e.g. Virtual DJ.

The ample layout which is optimized for the ergonomic operation methods of DJs, offers intuitive control for a fast and secure performance without the need to touch a computer. The deck-control section is amply equipped and offers ideal control of all advanced functions for perfect digital DJing with up to 4 virtual decks. The newly developed, extremely flat jog wheels with adjustable drag and high resolution with 4096 steps per turn offer unequaled opportunities. Outstandingly precise handling that facilitates control to the split second of every imaginable track during fast-paced club gigs.

Sturdily screwed control dials, extremely smooth-running faders and backlit buttons for visual and tactile status feedback, in full size and club quality, offer every DJ a safe working environment. The perfect introduction to digital mixing: based on the famous Digital Jockey series, Reloop presents two new compact controllers that do not accept a compromise when regarding quality and feeling. Clearly structured and well arranged, the DJ will feel comfortable whether newbie or advanced. The feature set is ideally laid out for Traktor LE and offers all the important features for rocking the party crowd! Two touch sensitive XXL jog wheels can be used either for scratching and pitch bending or for quick track searching. With the big transport section (play, cue, cup & sync) the track is quickly mixed and via shift function this section can also be used triggering cue points. Thanks to the precise sync feature every blend-over is perfectly beat-matched and the DJ can focus on more important things such as creative remixing. Effects such as delay, flanger or reverb can be easily selected and manipulated via a large soft-touch encoder. A designated rotary control for filter (and pan) can be used for amazing high-pass and low-pass sweeps (HPF/LPF). The loop section comes with auto loop, manual in & out buttons, and a further encoder for rapid beat looping. The high-resolution 14 bit pitch fader and the illuminated pitch bend buttons round off the player section.

Besides 3-band equalizer and gain the classically arranged 2 channel mixer also offers an LED level meter and convenient MIDI data & power status lights. With the Digital Jockey 2 Reloop gives Traktor DJs a controller that will make sound become truly tangible: A hardware control that facilitates such an immediate access to the world's leading DJ software plus such a great handling of all functions that both components result in a perfect team up.

With its noble panel made of brushed aluminum the Digital Jockey 2 lies so well in the hand as never before. Its control panel is clearly arranged and is geared to all important Traktor PRO functions. The red illumination is very striking, white captions indicate the way to the second MIDI level. Together with the black chassis the Digital Jockey 2 also forms an optical unit with Native Instruments Traktor which is already included as the latest LE version.

DJs that have been working with CD players will feel at ease with the Reloop controller's second generation just as quickly as DJs that have been controlling Traktor via computer. The new, high-quality pitch faders are very delicate and do not lock at 0%.

This is the updated MKII version. Main differences between MKI and MKII: small 1/8" and big 1/4" headphone socket, master volume boost when using an external power supply, new adjust knobs for the platter sensitivity, new optional Vestax digital crossfader, and new analog throughput for mic/aux input.

The VCI-300 is quickly becoming the dj standard for all-in-one, controller based DJing. The intuitive mixer-like layout, the touch sensitive JOG wheels, and the Serato Itch software, all combine to give the user an experience that is very similar to djing on a turntable-based Serato setup. We've seen many DJs use the VCI-300, and everything from the djs movements to the music manipulation is very similar. OUR OPINION

As Akai's answer the Korg's Nano series, the LPD8 holds up very well and actually has a few advantages. While both feature ulra-slim profiles and portability, the LPD8 combines pads AND knobs in one unit (although the knobs are rather short) whereas you would have to buy 2 Nanos (the PAD and KONTROL) to get these features with Korg. It is also slightly shorter than the nanoPAD and features a nice matte finish with rounded corners. Recommended.

Code is a flexible and stylish control surface for computer music creation and performance. Its compact grid of 32 endless encoders with LED rings have built-in pushbuttons with addressable LEDs let you "think outside the grid." Code sends and receives MIDI, providing endless possibilities for use with software such as Ableton Live, Max/MSP, Properllerhead's Reason and Record, and NI Traktor, just to name a few. Class-complaint, bus-powered, and completely reprogrammable, Code is an ideal companion to hardware and software for music production. Open source firmware (licenced under GPL v3) provides developers with new avenues of exploration and the potential for users to try out different configurations.

Weighing in at only 2 lbs and 6" x 11" x 2" (WDH), Code is extremely portable and adaptable, so it will easily integrate with your existing hardware and software. Each encoder on the Code has an LED indicator ring that provides visual feedback on its position. Every encoder also works as a push button and has an LED indicator button below knob, opening up creative possibilities for use as a grid controller and knob controller at the same time. This is the ME version of the Block that now features all metal aluminum enclosure with hand finished mahoghany ends. Block is a compact and programmable MIDI control surface designed for interactive audio performance built on the same bi-directional and adaptable platform as the Ohm64. Block provides a powerful interface for creating and interacting with sound in a small easy-to-transport body.

Sixty four backlight led buttons provide endless possibilities for visual feedback with the instrument by connecting it to Ableton Live, Max/Msp, our open source sounds apps, or any other software that supports MIDI. The open source blockEditor application lets you reprogram any of the controller's sixty four clip buttons, eight knobs, two faders, and seven function buttons. Block has bi-directional talkback communication allowing the controller to talk to your software, and software to your device. MIDI messages can be sent to the Block to light up the buttons for an interactive performance. Completely programable and mappable, block provides a flexible control surface that be used with any software or setup. Completely USB powered means you don't have to worry about adapters and and power strips, and it is plug and play so no drivers are required. LAB REVIEW

This is the updated MKII version. The main differences between MKI and MKII are the addition of the built-in 2 in/4 out audio interface (which eliminates the need for additional interfaces and allows for addition of CD players, turntables, samplers and effects to your DJ setup), 4 deck control, and larger, tension adjustable JOG wheels. Additional upgrades include a new multi-function joystick for quick and easy searching and loading of tracks, more MIDI assignable parameters (128 total), new ergonomic knobs, and a new symmetrical control layout. These upgrades make the VCI-100 almost on par with the VCI-300, but includes Traktor LE instead of Serato Itch and lacks mic input and 1/4" outs. The addition of the built-in interface is huge in making the unit a true all-in-one system, plus the option to control 4 decks, quick search joystick, and lightweight design make the VCI-100MK2 an excellent choice for digital DJs. Recommended.

TORQUE CONTROL

Every DJ has a preference for the touch of the JOG wheel, which relates to the DJ's play style. The rotation torque of the VCI-100MK2's JOG wheels can be tuned to your preference by simply adjusting the centerpiece.

REFINED CONTROL

All buttons of the VCI-100MK2 are tuned to provide a stress less refined touch and communicate with extreme precision. LED backlights provide excellent visibility and tells you the current status of your setup.

ALUMITE PANEL

The strong and solid alumite (the same aluminum type material used on macbooks) top panel secures the VCI-100MK2 and provides a professional appearance. Just looking at it tells you it will live up to heavy duty.
