Follow up to Rick Wilhite's 2010 Vibes 1 compilation. Wilhite has been involved in Detroit's music scene as a DJ and promoter over the past 20 plus years. His Vibes - New & Rare Music record store was a main source in Detroit for soulful electronic music until it's closure. Vibes 2 - Part One collects tracks from pioneering and up & coming producers from Detroit, Chicago and New York. The overall sound is deep and soulful with tracks from veteran Jovonn and new comer Sean Tate particularly standing out. Jon Easley takes a late career Mood II Swing approach, repeating a muted organ stab over jacking drums to great effect. Wilhite is joined by Norm Talley for the dark, grooving techno of "30 Years Later." Vibes 2 - Part One is a great collection of some of the current crop of house and techno coming out of the US.
