Easily the most-requested soundtrack in Lab history (equal parts customers and staff). Sofia Coppola’s 2003 age gap romance starring Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray, set in Tokyo’s towering Park Hyatt, is scored with a near-perfect mix of popular music and original cues composed by Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine, Brian Reitzell and AIR ("Alone In Kyoto" composed for the film was later included on Talkie Walkie). The original pieces are peppered with old favorites both familiar and unfamiliar… "Fantino" from a then-unknown Sebastian Tellier, Happy End’s "Kaze Wo Atsumete" literal DECADES before the global Hosono craze, Squarepusher’s simple but timeless "Tommib," an utterly perfect use of MBV’s best song by a mile, and a tactile placement of J&MC’s "Just Like Honey" to lighten the mood (can you imagine the state of the world if they hadn’t ended the movie with this? We would have never recovered!), Death In Vegas, Phoenix and more. Aggravatingly impossible to track down on vinyl, but thankfully, we still want it just as much today as we did nearly 20 years ago.
