Lab Overview

“Your trial and error is error and error…” Québécois trio Men I Trust finally release their long-awaited double album Oncle Jazz (oui, that’s ‘uncle jazz’ en Francais), and it was worth the wait. Their self-titled debut album (more of a compilation, really) was just a little too inconsistent for me, but it seems they’ve found their footing and are now just cranking out bangers. Oncle Jazz has all the cuts we’ve been rinsing digitally all summer long (“Numb,” “Say Can You Hear,” “I Hope To Be Around,” “Show Me How,” “Tailwhip”) and a grip of brand new *le joints* that are just as good. There’s 24 songs here for crying out loud! The older tracks have been newly re-recorded and frontwoman Emma Proulx's breathy cadence is just as hair-raising the second time around. That’s not even getting into the silver platter of funky slap basslines and atmospheric production this feast of songs are served on. Also check out “Air,” “Porcelain,” “Pines,” “Found Me,” the wispy “Something In Water” and slinky “Norton Commander.” This is the violet colored double vinyl edition, housed in glossy gatefold sleeve with full album lyrics, individually numbered edition of 1000. Recommended.
