Debut album from one of Norcal's most notorious exports. The Money Store found Death Grips signed to Epic Records and getting much attention in the process. Their take on hip hop was brutal and dark, as abrasive as the punk and hardcore you have to assume they took influence from. Definitely music that could breath life back into a rotting corpse. The music seems to be coming at you from all directions, drums colliding against each other, drones filling in what empty space remains. Throughout all of this the vocals of MC Ride come screaming out of the ether. His technique could be called rapping in the most abstract of senses. It's non sequitur but somehow you're able to derive some meaning from Ride's delivery. The music of Death Grips builds on the legacy of the aggressive hardcore punk-metal of the 80s, bringing it into the 21st century with a vengeance.
