Originally released in 1986, this compilation was originally put together to "capitalize on James Brown's popularity in hip-hop circles at the time." Unlike most compilations, In The Jungle Groove developed an aura usually reserved for classic albums. Danny Krivit, who was commissioned to edit two of the tracks, introduced the definitive "Funky Drummer" edit here, and the 80s / 90s sampling madness ensued. The classic "Give It Up Turn It Loose" appears here in its unreleased original version without the overdubbed audience noise. In addition, most of these tracks never appeared as one continuous song, they were broken up into 2 parts for the 45. When they did appear on LPs they were usually shortened. Ever get frustrated that the guitar break on "Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved" is split up on the 45? On this version you get the unreleased, continuous, 7 minute version. 9 tracks of the unreleased, alternate, remix variety. Too much JB, highly recommended.
