Lab Overview

Oh man this one brings me back! When I first heard Primus the band turned my world inside out. They're particular brand of thrash filled punk funk was unlike anything I had heard before. "Too Many Puppies" was really the first song to hook me in, but "John the Fisherman" was what got me. Tim "Herb" Alexander's funk filled drums, distorted and expertly played bass, Les Claypool's quirky delivery and the guitar playing of Larry "Ler" LaLonde had me begging for more from the start. Their sound was singular and totally original to my young mind. Sure they may have taken a little humor from Frank Zappa, had the simplified lineup of the Police, and a penchant for the sprawling jams of Funkadelic, but it would be years before I could pickup on any of that. They were more funky and more out there than the Red Hot Chili Peppers and that was all that mattered to me at the time. Not to mention that Frizzle Fry is quite a statement for a bass player that once tried out for Metallica.
