Downtempo masterpiece gets a much-needed 20th anniversary color repress! Newly re-cut by the original engineer Kevin Metcalfe; here's what we had to say about When It Falls back when it first dropped:
After selling 300,000 copies of their debut LP Simple Things, don’t expect Zero 7 to switch up the formula. When It Falls picks up right where the last album left off, plenty of pretty melodies sung by guest vocalists over soft Rhodes, thick bass and a little French horn, with synth for accent. The first single “Home” gives this warm feeling like spending the entire morning in bed on a cold day when your ass should be at work. Although it is difficult to capture their abstract feel in words, one thing you can say about these guys is that their sound stays consistently chill- listen to “Passing By," "When It Falls” and “The Space Between” and you’ll start to understand the musical theme this album is built on. For me Zero 7 have always been in the upper-echelon of background/work music, a very necessary genre when you can’t stand the radio no more.
