Lab Overview

Official reissue of Fleetwood Mac's sprawling 1979 studio album. Tusk was a massive undertaking, and the English and American five-piece group really rose to the occasion under the weight of their bestselling Rumours album released two years prior. It was considered a 'double album' (remember, most albums at the time were 30-40 minutes and comprised a single LP) and each of the band's three principle songwriters were given room to explore their own composition to their deepest darkest recesses, yielding some real gems. Peep Stevie Nicks really operating at her true peak with "Sisters Of The Moon," "Storms" and the eternal, swirling "Sara," (go find the extended version!). Lindsay Buckingham's title track was released as a single and considered super experimental at the time, but it doesn't get many rewinds from me ("That's All For Everyone" does though - sleeper cut!!!). The record is notable for containing some pretty dark and vulnerable moments, but they're neatly tucked away with the soft and pillowy "Over & Over" and "Never Forget," both Christine McVie compositions, bookending the album. McVie's "Brown Eyes" (DJ Shadow sample!) is another standout, properly deep and moody. There's a lot to sort through on Tusk, surely something for everyone, so long as you're not completely turned off by the Mac (too many Williamsburg brunches, we get it).
