Following a string of well-received EPs, Shlohmo (aka LA native Henry Laufer) dropped Bad Vibes in 2011. It was his proper full-length debut for the Friends of Friends label, an album inspired by the desire to write songs and create a release consisting of full-range instrumentation and vocals of his own. Combining what was then being called a new wave of "rhythm and blues" with the backbone of Henry's take on modern electronic music, the record swings and sways—it's augmented with delicate slide guitar playing, homemade synth sounds and lilting, lush atmospherics as well as tuneful melodies. Shlohmo's output here is one that will take your mind adrift and set your soul at ease. Check "Big Feelings," "Places," "Anywhere But Here," "Parties," "Just Us," "I Can't See You," and "Seriously" for a taste. This 10th anniversary reissue, track D3 is a vinyl only release and does not appear on the tracksliting. Chilled musical musings for fans of Teebs, Boards of Canada, and Mount Kimbie. Recommended.
