  • "Thematically the album is about me questioning my identity." Poppy is from the internet, and for her second studio full-length, she poses a question that neither her nor the 14 songs give a clear answer to. And that is perfectly in line with Poppy's mysterious & bizarre persona, the one that's carved out a niche for her, both in her native web space + IRL. For Am I A Girl?, it appears that Poppy is reaching for a larger audience, pairing her ASMR vocals w/ dancier electronic production: check "Time Is Up" featuring Diplo. Things turn a bit heavier and darker toward the end of the LP, as Poppy experiments w/ what she refers to as "Poppy metal." Check out the discorded power chords & doom-stricken backing vocals as they contrast with Poppy's endearing whispers. Other highlights include: "Play Destroy" featuring Grimes, "Girls in Bikinis," "Fashion After All," and "In a Minute."

    • 180g pressing
    • white / black marble vinyl
    • includes fold-out poster w/ lyrics and credits on the backside
    • music label: Mad Decent 2018
