"First Word Records is very proud to bring you the 10th anniversary edition of Tall Black Guy's debut LP '8 Miles to Moenart'! It includes two brand new jazz interpretations ('From Home To Work, And Back' and 'Running The Motor'), recorded with a live band, as well as a new intro cut ('Black Detroit'), and an alternative mix of the single 'Mon Amie De'troit', previously only available on 7" vinyl. The original vinyl LP release was a one-time limited edition pressing; this being the first time this project has been available on wax since then, and also includes entirely new artwork and photography." - First Word Records
Original Lab review:
Detroit beatsmith Tall Black Guy drops his first solo full-length on Leeds-based imprint First Word Records. Without listening to any of the tracks, I knew this was going to be dope, and I stopped using the word "dope" 5 years ago. This guy is a master of hip-hop drums, anything you throw on top is gravy. Mostly instrumental with a few well-placed vocal cuts, no weaknesses, and the best intro sample ever (ed. note: intro has been re-recorded for the 2024 reissue, but still dope)? Recommended.
