Spiritual soul jazz from Detroit's Harold McKinney. Voices And Rhythms Of The Creative Profile showcases a group McKinney pulled together to accompany his Creative Profile instrumental group. The music gives equal shine to the voices and the instruments, with Gwen McKinney leading the vocal ensemble. The instrumental side is covered by Wendell Harrison on flute, Marcus Belgrave on trumpet, Billy Turner on percussion, and Ed Pickins on bass, along with some Moog explorations from Darryl Dybka. The sound is funky and electric with a heavy dose of vocals. They deliver great versions of Eddie Harris' "Freedom Jazz Dance" and Herbie Hancock's "Dolphin Dance" while McKinney's Rhodes shines on "Out of These Blues." Voices And Rhythms Of The Creative Profile excellently captures the spirit of the Detroit jazz scene during the 1970s. Seven tracks in all.
