The live show favorite "Shake That(1)" sounds just as good on record, but how could a track that samples 2 Live's "Fuck Shop" and Splack Pack's "Shake That Ass Bitch" not be? "B-O-O-T-A-Y(2)" pulls sources from no less than three different tracks, but guest vocals from Santi of Santogold really makes the track; same goes for the hoodrat track "Loose(3)" and the guest spot from Amanda Blank, who just sounds better every time she gets on the mic. "Pu$$y(4)" gets a little too dumb for my taste, but "Bitch!(5)" overcomes its subject matter with an epic beat from Benny and a sample from NWA. Leading off with an intro from French rap clown prince The Genevan Heathen, the EP hits the ground running with a remix of DJ Class' blazing, "Rump Shaker" horn-sampling "Roll It(1)" with Pase on vocals (instrumental also included). XXXchange's dirty south / French electro hybrid "100 Million(2)" is sure to blow some heads; ditto for his rework of house favorite "He Not In(3)," which features insane original synth work and even some dancehall flavoring. And that's just the A-side! Every wondered how Paul Simon would fare in a grimy Bmore club? Chipset & Devlin give you the answer on the much anticipated "50 Ways(4)," which has literally been years in the making and now features a verse from fellow Spank Rock associate Ms. Blank. (Got the instrumental for that one, too.) The terrifying trio of XXX, Devlin & Darko round things out with the extra hype party break "New Day(5)," and "Shake It(6)," which transforms DJ Blaqstarr's "Shake It To The Ground" into a Rong-style slow burner. expand review to tastemaking in the DJ world. Although this mix isn't rare or obscure it's clear they're all about the jam. The whole crew comes out for this one: producers and DJs XXXchange, Chris Rockswell, Ronnie Darko, Tyler Pope on guitar, MC's Spankrock, Pase Rock and Amanda Blank. They take practically every hot song from last year and mix it into one killer set that's an hour plus. Check some of the selections: CSS' "Let's Make Love And Listen To DFA - Spank Rock Edit," Dominatrix's "The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight," Zongamin's "Bongo Song," Yes' "Owner Of A Lonely Heart," Yello's "Bostitch," Para One "DunDun Dun," Simian Mobile Disco's "Huslter," Bonde Do Role's "Melo Do Tobaco - XXXchange Remix With The Ford Granada," and Gaz Nevada's "I.C. Love Affair." Although, I know practically all these cuts, I'm not really hatin' that much. For anyone that doesn't live in NY, care about music blogs and the creme de la creme of what's new, it's a sureshot. Plus they mix it so clean with Spankrock and XXXchange remixes and Spankrock and Amanda blank spittin vocals, it's hard to believe it's all done live. XXXchange's take(2) is more like a brand new song than a re-edit, completely eliminating all vocals and replacing 'em with mo' sax and mo' flute, courtesy of the Youngblood Brass Band's Anthony Barba.
