R E V I E W
Repress of this solid 2001 EP from Morgan Geist (Metro Area and Environ Records honcho). Super finds him melding the sensibilities of his earlier techno productions with the '80s electro-dubbiness of Metro Area's recent stuff. "24K(1)" is a nice long groover with some soulful R & B electro flourishes and an intro crescendo reminiscent of El Coco's "Cocomotion," while "Sleaze(2)" has a definite Detroit influence. The real stunner here though is "Lullaby(3)." It starts off with some nice Kraftwerkian drum-machine business under a pretty synth melody. After a few minutes you're going, "yeah, that's the shit, nice..." and then all of a sudden out pops an amazing, understated trumpet solo! Yeah, for real. One of those moments that you didn't think could happen on a "dance" record. It's a killer, and it will make you feel warm inside.
