First off, don't let the goofy title dissuade you! This comp is totally stacked, featuring 20 obscure instrumental cuts from the "Swinging London" of the late 60s / early 70s, most with a twist - like the liners say, these tracks contain "session men discovering sitars, orchestras getting into the freaky side of things, Hammonds, fuzz and brass." For your "Hammonds and fuzz" fix, proceed directly to the last track, Stanley Myers' "Organ Fantasia In D Major(1)," a completely psyched-out 6-minute jam sesh with blazing organs and guitar pedals for days. For a more traditional taste, check the Shock Absorbers' version of the Isleys' "It's Your Thing(2)," alternating between brassy and fuzzy with their sharp horn section and mean lead guitar. The Les Reed Orchestra's "Big Drum(3)" has a furious, Animal-style drum solo, followed up by David Smith's melancholic burner "See Me(4)." (I'm wishing "See Me" was about 20 minutes longer right about now.) The title cut(5) by Mike Vickers has some groovy brass and piano work, and the Keith Mansfield Orchestra's "Soul Thing(6)" is exactly as advertised. The horns from "Moanin'(7)" by Trax Four sound real familiar - check the audio. 20 tracks; 56 minutes. Recommended.
