I Don't Think I'm Ever Gonna Figure It Out

R E V I E W
It's been 10 years since this single came out, and it's still in print? That should tell you something. If you're a fan of Elliott Smith – and I'm guessing most have made up their minds at this point – you probably already know "Speed Trials(1)" by heart, it being the perfect lo-fi opening dirge to his most geeked-over album, Either/Or. The multi-tracked, finger-picked "Angeles(2)" is on here too, but the real gem here is "I Don't Think I'm Ever Gonna Figure It Out(3)," a true E.S. rarity and a definite treat for anyone who complained when XO and Figure 8 came out. It's a nice throwback to the acoustic days, before the nice studios and Beatles worship. (Or at least overt Beatles worship.) It sucks this dude is gone.
