First off, this has all the elements of a winner: Badly drawn cover art from a respected label, no tracklists, all instrumentals, and it's a vol. 1! Now let's get into it. These are raw tracks from Stones Throw's electro boogie prince, James Pants. I've been a believer ever since we got in "Ka$h" in a couple months ago. His swanky, smokey, electro lounge style kills it on the midnight tip, and although it sounds retro, I assure you it's not(Rezound here Dj'd with him in LA). Check tracks, "01(1)," "2(2)," "4(3)," "7(4)," and "8(5)" for a dip into the funk. Sounds like different chapters of his "Ka$h" album, mixed with some raw dubs, percs, and surprises. Super leftfield freakiness for all you taste hunters out there. Recommended.
