The most anticipated release in fixed-track bike scene... probably ever. The Mash crew has been screening their film all over the world now, strategically building up to the release of this book + DVD set. The film captures the San Francisco's fixed...   expand review  scene much like a skate video. It's candidly details the people, tricks, environment, and culture. The book portion features high quality photography to go along with the moving visuals, featuring creative direction by Benny Gold (of Huf fame). This is definitely the start of something big. Hardcover book, over 100 pages. 60 minute DVD. -the mgmnt

"Sneakin Up On You(1)" is quite different for our funk section. It's a late 60s jazz vocal track that's considered a UK club classic and supposedly fetches over 3 bills. Fresh... which ever way you cut it. Flip features another pricey vocal...   expand review  club track, Bryony James' "Feeling Good(2)," a track you'll surely recognize in some form. -the mgmnt

I like this Freddie Cruger guy: he keeps it simple and powerful. You might already know him from numerous releases on GAMM and Swedish Brandy, or his full length released earlier this year under the name "3 Foot People" all good things....   expand review  This 12" is a first in a series of instrumental cuts of his most requested tracks. Ever since producers like Prefuse, Dabyre, and RJD2, it seems everyone is trying to out-sequence each other to form their signature sound. Not this dude. Picture smooth, jazzy beats, with insanely crisp snares and kicks, and warm bass. Basically, the type of shit MC's would kill to rhyme over. 4 tracks total, all playable and all good: "Keep On Moving(1)," "In The Jungle(2)," "Sunday Love Beat(3)," and "Live Tune(4)." -C'mish

First reason to buy dis piece: the cover art, an almost perfect duplication of the original gatefold featuring some of the illest illustration work. The front is a museum suitable depiction of minorities gettin bucked by the system and a bandaged Toni...   expand review  Kukoc. The back cover has a picture of demons attacking JB unsuccessfully with one demon saying "He's too strong, we can't stop him." Word nasty. And the other replying "That's because he's the godfather." Word Yoda. The inside cover has a full length shot of the Godfather in his Sunday's best. Reason #2 the thirteen minute version of "Papa Don't Take No Mess." The longplayer classic track (sampled for Biz's vapors) can get you through a small crisis. Reason #3, another JB historical moment, the breakdown "Can't Stand It" complete with some of the funkiest drums JB ever produced. A bunch more tracks on here you'll recognize on this packed CD. So funky. -the mgmnt

Ample Soul

Finally available on double vinyl, thanks to Fat Jon's Ample Soul label (who also brought us the Samurai Champloo vinyl collection). In a way, RZA's whole career has been leading up to this project. If you read that Wu-Tang Manual he wrote,...   expand review  you know how much of the Wu mythology / philosophy is rooted in cartoons, action heroes, kung fu, samurais, codes of honor and all that. After laying down the scores for Ghost Dog and both Kill Bill movies, it's only natural that RZA should create the soundtrack for an ultra-violent anime revenge tale, which happens to star Samuel L. Jackson as a silent samurai with wild hair. This isn't your run-of-the-mill soundtrack neither: RZA called in the big guns for this one, as evidenced by Talib Kweli's appearance on the heavy "Certified Samurai(1)" and Big Daddy Kane & GZA on "Cameo Afro(2)." The show's "Afro Theme(3)" is woefully short, but has a hot beat and some classic marble mouthed RZA vocals. 20 tracks total. -Chris Lemon-Red

Both songs on here are quality: "Wreckonize(1)" is the one that samples Bill Wither's "Just The Two Of Us" to good effect, but "Sound Bwoy Buriell(2)" is the one that sets the jump off. Smif N Wessun bring it JA style with...   expand review  a crew of Bootcamp affiliates out to dust all batty men. Wreckonize remix and instrumental. Sound Bwoy Burriel edit, remix, remix instrumental and clean remix. Strangely, the Soundbwoy edit is the version everybody knows, and I think it only exists in this radio version. -the mgmnt
