R E V I E W
A two part presentation by Peter Sutherland, the acclaimed photographer who has also infiltrated the lives of graffiti artists for the Autograf book and worked as director of photography for the Gator movie. The set consists of both his documentary film Pedal and a 150 page, full color book documenting the 2005 Cycle Messenger World Championships held in NYC. It takes a unique breed of people to jump on a bike and get your ass around the city as fast as humanly possible, battling everything in your way, and dealing with extreme hatred from just about anybody else on the road. There's something kind of righteous about these people- definitely one of the last bastions of true "fuck you" attitude, tough motherfuckers (male or female), often super intelligent, always wearing some outlandish shit. The documentary DVD features interviews that Sutherland conducted over a two year period (1998-2000), riding around midtown on his skateboard and haphazardly getting people talking. How many times have you wondered what those neanderthal bike warriors are thinking? P. Gorgeous should be writing this but he's off at his other job as a messenger- he better come with some good blog reports about that shit.
