Oh God, I know that everything I write in this blurb will be scanned with great scrutiny by Minimal Man, who doesn't work in the office anymore but is such the minimal house master that he checks up on it anyway. Well,...   expand review  here goes. Sweet follow up to their Night Express EP that set their name rippling in the minimal/tech house waters last year. Now they've both joined the Spectral Sound army and are once again sweetening the pot with this flavorful single featuring a mysterious remix dude, Schatrax. The original single is so serene and beautiful it brings a damn tear to my eye. Soft early morning lovemaking and a vision of golden sunrise come to mind. I know that's sounds cheesy, but those are probably some of the best things in life. Schatrax(2), on the other hand, does not "Schat" on the track, but instead lifts the intensity with clustered drum patterns, dubbed out keys, thicker bass end, and an epic climax. In short, it's the rocker of the bunch. "Brazil To Detroit(3)" is kinda stomping for minimal. Dirty bass lays the foundation for this gritty ride, which they quickly cover up with soft floating synths. Will this mean a full length from Spectral? I dunno, but I think Minimal Man would say something to the effect of, "They goddamn better, or I'll make them drink bleach until their shit turns white." Detroiters kill me. -C'mish

So, Rong CEO DJ Spun tells me that there's a lot of crazy back-story behind this release... something about off-shore oil, bank accounts in the Bahamas, and the rich sons of plutocrats who happen to have themselves a jam-band. Regardless, all the...   expand review  educated dance-music consumer needs to know is that the fine standards of the Rong Music imprint have not suffered any ill effects by such intrigue - this 12" is another winner. The original mix(1) is kinda dubby and Material-sounding, albeit a bit more noodle-y than I'd like. But luckily the "Thick as Thieves" edit(2) does a lovely job of excising the aforementioned unpleasantries and turning the whole affair into nice DJ Harvey-esque groover; dubby in a King Sunny Ade kind of way, yet still chugging enough for the dancefloor. It kinda reminds me of Nick Chacona's "Band Practice" too, which is a good thing. Also includes a dub of the original and the DJ Harry version(3). This may be the wankiest review I've ever written, but trust me, it's a pretty good record. 4 tracks in all. -Dj Language

I really don't think Larry Heard (aka Mr. Fingers) needs any kind of introduction. The man is a living house music legend/visionary and is responsible for producing some of the genre's most influential and enduring tracks ("Can You Feel It", "Mystery Of...   expand review  Love", "I'm Strong", and countless others). This particular Jack Trax double 12" features some well known cuts from Heard as a few harder to find tracks. Check the soundscapes - the sweet, euphoric mood of "Black Oceans(1)," "Children At Play(2)," and the sought-after "Just Another Lonely Day(3)," to the more intense jack of "Distant Planet(4)" with legendary house vocalist Robert Owens. Heard is a master of house music. (Note: Side D and side C have swapped labels.) -snackmaster

Rong Music hits you once again with that new disco shit you love. This time it's the Yo Spaceship! MEGAMIX entitled "Life is Special(1)" edited by Frisco's 40 Thieves. Pure funky, chunky electro-disco for that ass stretching over 11 minutes. This promo...   expand review  only piece is one-sided and promo only, so get it while it lasts (as with most of the Rong stuff, this will sell out). -snackmaster
