Hip-hop's #1 retro '88 specialist is at it again. Believe it or not, his upcoming Beauty and the Beat isn't all odes to Percee P, but you'd be forgiven for assuming that based on "Fumbling Over Words That Rhyme" a song that manages to name-check more old school rappers than The Game. The real reason to check for this is Edan's new-found production aesthetic, hard and gritty like before, but now he's looping up psych rock records and it gives his sound a whole new dimension. Check "Beauty" and its blend of moody loops and acid-laced swirls. For once, here's an underground cat not trying to make his beats sound like Pete Rock circa 1993 or Primo circa 95. Sure he's throwback in a sense, but Edan's got that 2006 style of rhythm to give em. Includes the instrumental for both tracks and the acapella for "Fumbling."
