Ableton Live 9 Intro gives you the essentials of Ableton Live at a great price. A whole new way to write and perform for less than the price of a plug-in.

OUR OPINION

For under $100, Intro gives you everything you need to create and perform your tracks. Though it isn't as loaded as the full version of Live or Live Suite, the limitations in Intro do not affect the sound or quality of the music you create in Intro. The limitations are very reasonable considering the price (i.e. you're limited to 64 audio tracks, 2 effect sends, 12 Ableton effects at once, etc.). For a full comparison chart click here. The TMA-1 Studio Headphones are based on our most popular and bestselling DJ headphone, the TMA-1 DJ Headphones. The Studio model takes all the proven strengths of the TMA-1 and adds the studio monitor functionality. The two main features of a quality studio monitor are comfort (for long critical listening sessions) and a neutral / flat sound output (we'll explain this later in review). In terms of comfort, the Studios feature enlarged, over-the-ear ear cups that come in both foam and synthetic leather. The foam ear cups are better for sound isolation, while the synthetic leather ones give you a bit more comfort. In terms of sound response, the Studios deliver a quality flat output, meaning the sound is equally balanced between low, mid, and high frequencies. When you create music, you want to make sure your sound is flat to ensure it sounds good on all systems. Think of it as the baseline, so when someone plays your song on a boombox or a high end stereo system, your sound will be balanced (the user can always up the bass or treble).

What does a flat response actually sound like? In terms of the TMA-1 Studios, for everyday usage you probably won't notice the difference. In fact, the Studios will sound crisp and clear, much better than most standard headphones out there. For DJing, you will not notice much of a difference except a bit less bass (but still plenty enough to DJ with). The label "studio montiors" should not dissuade you from purchasing these for any application. The bottom line is that they sound great and they would be awesome to have on your desk or in the airport. Please Note that studio monitors like these are "big" headphones, they may not be the best for everyday commuters.

This is the updated Groovy Cleaner Kit that now comes with 2 oz. of Groovy Cleaning Fluid, anti-static cloth, microfiber brush, and storage bag. This is a true story: Back at Lab II, we had a undersized pit of an office. Uno day, we had a water leak in our ceiling. The crud-filled water soaked our vinyl gems. The water dried and left a thick film of grime that stuck to the vinyl like shepard's pie. We sprayed a little somethin' somethin' of Groovy Cleaner, and no joke this shit made the records sound better than before. Even some noticeable cracks had disappeared. Electric Ladyland never sounded so sweet. Now we swear to this stuff. This bottle paid for itself when it miracle cleaned a bunch of 45s we picked up at the flea market. Native Instruments Audio 2 interface was already our bestselling 2 channel DJ audio interface. However, Native Instruments recently added its industry standard Traktor Pro DJ software to the Audio 2 without effecting the price (an amazing $99). The combination of the two components allows you to DJ completely on your computer or using your computer and a controller.

HOW IT WORKS

The Audio 2 interface has (2) 1/4" outputs and (1) USB input. If you are performing computer based DJing, you would plug the USB port to your computer; plug (1) output to your audio output (stereo); and (1) output for headphone monitoring. When using a controller, you would plug the two outputs into the separate channels of the controller and use the headphone output on the controller. The Traktor DJ software will work seamlessly with either setup (however, if you're using a controller, make sure it has Traktor mapping).

RECOMMENDED CONTROLLER

Many Traktor Audio 2 users are using Native Instruments Kontrol X1 in their setup as a controller. These users are generally ones that don't want all the controls and bulk of standard DJ controller, but want the basic tactile controls to cue, play songs, and control EQs. The Kontrol X1 features plug and play capability with the Traktor Audio 2 which means easy setup, intuitive controls, and instant control mapping. For the price and quality of the components, the Traktor Audio 2 has no peer. HOW IT WORKS

Serato Scratch Live (SSL) works with your traditional dj setup (turntables or cd turntables plus a mixer). Using specially coded vinyl records / CDs, a custom interface box, and the SSL software, you can manipulate music files on your computer, just as if they were recorded onto the vinyl / cd. That means you can mix and scratch your digital files just like you would a record. In addition, there are many powerful digital features built into the software like iTunes synch, playlist functions, cue points, sampling, recording, and so much more.
