MANUFACTURER'S REVIEW
Turntablism is alive and more creative than ever. Rane and Serato are proud to be supporting partners in that creativity with the introduction of the Rane Sixty-One and Sixty-Two Mixers for Serato Scratch Live. For more than a decade, artists have chosen innovative Rane instruments to advance their art and three generations of TTM series mixers have been the top pick for many of the world's best performers. These mixers more tightly integrate performers, music, software, and hardware. The artist adds the passion, imagination and skills.
The Sixty-One is a plug-and-play package supporting two-deck digital vinyl simulation, software effects and all the record and playback channels you need.
The Sixty-One easily connects up to four turntables or CD players, with an additional Aux input for samplers, instruments or session input, and four more USB playback channels. MIDI controllers can be added with their functions mapped to Scratch Live. All controls on the Sixty-One are MIDI-mappable to software applications that support mapping.
The Sixty-One Mixer supports both analog and Digital Vinyl Simulation (DVS) playback. The mixer is bundled with Serato Scratch Live and includes ASIO and Core Audio drivers to use other audio programs. Two Serato Control Vinyl Records and two Serato Control CDs are included.
A typical setup includes operation with two Scratch Live DVS channels, SP-6 sample player on an independent USB Aux playback channel and Software effects enabled on the USB digital insert in the FlexFx loop. This setup also allows recording PGM-1 post-fader, PGM-2 post-fader and the Main mix.

SL2 - Serato Scratch Live - $499.00
LAB POINTS
- Serato is the most widely used digital dj system on the market
- highest recommendation from the Lab
- works with standard turntable or cd turntable dj setup
- works with Windows and Mac
HOW IT WORKS
Serato Scratch Live (SSL) works with your traditional dj setup (turntables or cd turntables plus a mixer). Using specially coded vinyl records / CDs, a custom interface box, and the SSL software, you can manipulate music files on your computer, just as if they were recorded onto the vinyl / cd. That means you can mix and scratch your digital files just like you would a record. In addition, there are many powerful digital features built into the software like iTunes synch, playlist functions, cue points, sampling, recording, and so much more.
SL1 vs SL2
- lower price from SL1
- improved sound quality (24-Bit Converters and 48kHz audio)
- more compact interface design
- upgraded to USB 2.0 from 1.1
- added internal phono preamps + grounding for turntables for mixer-less vinyl to digital transfers
- ASIO / Core Audio drivers for 3rd-party support
- eliminated mic input
SL2 vs SL3
- The SL2 is Rane Serato's entry level model, but it still boasts nearly identical hardware specs (including identical sound quality) to the SL3 at a significant price discount. Furthermore, the SSL software is the most integral part of the Serato setup, and both models use the same software. However, for advanced users, the lack of the AUX input / output on the SL2 may be an issue:
- SL3 allows for (3) input decks (2 decks, 1 AUX)
- the AUX input on the SL3 lets you mix 3 simultaneous decks
- the AUX input on the SL3 lets you record your sets in real time within Serato
- the AUX output on the SL3 allows you to send the SP6 (Serato sample player) through its own output
- the AUX output on the SL3 allows you to route The Bridge through its own output
- in addition, the SL3 includes a power supply and interface carrying case
- click here to view the SL3 model on Turntablelab.com
OUR OPINION
An overwhelming majority of our customers use Serato Scratch Live. It has become both the standard for bedroom DJs and professional club DJs. SSL is the most intuitive system and is truly designed with the DJ in mind.
As a company, Serato seems to be the most in touch with the DJs community. Serato continually introduce free upgrades to their software and introduce new features all the time. In addition, there is a large online support community and documentation for both beginners and advanced DJs. Turntable Lab highly recommends Serato Scratch Live.

MANUFACTURER'S REVIEW
The SL4 connects four vinyl turntables or CD players to your computer and the mixer of your choice. Using special control vinyl, CDs or MIDI controllers, you can scratch and mix files from your Mac or Windows computer's CD or hard drive. This intuitive system replicates the traditional DJing experience for "real feel" usability. With unparalleled performance, stability and audio quality, you'll know why thousands of DJs worldwide choose Rane with Serato Scratch Live.
The SL 4 is the first standalone DJ interface with two USB ports for seamless DJ changeover and back-to-back performances. Superior sound is delivered with high quality 96 kHz, 24-bit audio. Built-in galvanic isolation between USB and audio, with turn on/off muting, ensures that only the purest interference-free audio signal is heard. Low-latency ASIO and Core Audio drivers allow you to use the SL 4 as a studio production tool with multiple third-party software applications. LAB REVIEW
This is the first mixer we usually recommend to our customers. The main strength of the TTM 56S is the quality of the construction and components. It is very rare that our customers report problems with this mixer, and in the rare case they do, Rane is excellent with warranty service repairs. We've had a 56 at our New York store DJ booth for over 5 years and it still works perfectly (and it gets heavy daily use). Secondly, the functionality is excellent. Rane's non-contact fader is one, if not the best, on the market; and the accelerated slope EQs are powerful and great for mixing. Like the Technics 1200, the Rane TTM 56s is a trusted DJ staple and will last you for years. Highly recommended.TTM56 TO TTM56S IMPROVEMENTS
- universal internal power supply works anywhere in the world (100-240 VAC)
- all four inputs are now Phono/Line switchable, now letting you plug in 4 turntables or 4 CD players, or any combination
- both 1/4" and 3.5 mm headphone jacks
- transform switches are now kill switches
- operation is simplified by putting all the controls you need on top, and increasing the width by one inch
