LAB REVIEW

Nocs sent me a review pair of the NS2 Air Monitors and I have been using them ever since. Here are my impressions:

• Setup: the NS2 creates a temporary network for setup. You'll have to enter the username and password to your wireless network to complete setup. The cord connecting the two speakers comes in (2) different lengths to fit your setup.
• Sound: the sound was refreshingly loud and robust. These trump all wireless speakers I've heard. Great bass without being overpowering.
• Perfect Size: these speakers are a great size for the modern living space. They're substantial without being too bulky. In addition, the rubberized finish and rounded corners make you want to move them around depending on the situation.
• These will literally change the way you listen to music in your home or office. NS2 Air Monitors eliminate the reliance on crappy "multimedia" speakers or docks that have become the norm. Imagine yourself coming home listening to your iPhone via headphones. Enter your home, take off the headphones and switch to AirPlay via a couple clicks and continue your musical experience. Or wake up in your bed, grab your phone and play your favorite wake-up song wirelessly.

Ableton Live 9 Intro gives you the essentials of Ableton Live at a great price. Whether you're a talented newcomer or a seasoned professional, Live Intro has got what you need for writing songs, making beats, recording, remixing, DJing and performing your music live on stage. If you're just starting out, Live's fluid workflow, real-time audio manipulation and an impressive 4 GB audio content package provide a smart step into the world of music production and digital DJing. For established DJs and producers, Intro provides studio-quality sound and an opportunity to plug Live's renowned composition and performance features into your current setup. A whole new way to write and perform for less than the price of a plug-in.

OUR OPINION

For under $100, Intro gives you everything you need to create and perform your tracks. Though it isn't as loaded as the full version of Live or Live Suite, the limitations in Intro do not affect the sound or quality of the music you create in Intro. The limitations are very reasonable considering the price (i.e. you're limited to 64 audio tracks, 2 effect sends, 12 Ableton effects at once, etc.). For a full comparison chart click here. Even with the limitations, this is still an incredible value for the price and an excellent way to get into producing with Live. Recommended.

Livid's Base combines the technology of drum machines and touch screens in a compact, fully customizable controller. At the heart of Base are 32 pressure/velocity sensitive pads with aftertouch, 9 touch sliders, 8 touch-sensitive buttons and 8 momentary buttons to control your set. The controls are fully editable and are illuminated with RGB lights that provide colorful and creative ways to play drums, synths, loops, sequence, change presets and navigate your set. The touch faders offer LED feedback that keep you updated on current values and adapt when you dynamically reassign the faders to your software. In addition, the faders can also deliver a note and velocity when you touch them, potentially acting as a switch for instantly engaging effects, or playing a sound when you touch the fader.

One of the main draws of Base is its fully customizable nature. Everything on the entire unit can be edited and configured via the easy-to-use web-based editor. Throw the editor in a browser and edit all the controls on Base. Firstly, the Soundwagon has proven to be hugely popular, however it is a novelty item; not a serious record player. That being said, there's something magical about this damned thing like watching dolphins reproduce or bears eating really good beef jerky. If you go into a relationship with the Soundwagon knowing that it's not your long-term or everyday turntable solution, you will have a beautiful time together (it might even get you some tang). As for sound quality, these new Soundwagons do feature an improved needle / speaker mechanism than vintage Soundwagons, however again, the sound is tinny and not fully accurate (also use it on common records, not your rares). Check the video and be mesmerized.

Now with in-line remote and mic! The TMA-1 Studio Headphones are based on our most popular and bestselling DJ headphone, the TMA-1 DJ Headphones. The Studio model takes all the proven strengths of the TMA-1 and adds the studio monitor functionality. The two main features of a quality studio monitor are comfort (for long critical listening sessions) and a neutral / flat sound output (we'll explain this later in review). In terms of comfort, the Studios feature enlarged, over-the-ear ear cups that come in both foam and synthetic leather. The foam ear cups are better for sound isolation, while the synthetic leather ones give you a bit more comfort. In terms of sound response, the Studios deliver a quality flat output, meaning the sound is equally balanced between low, mid, and high frequencies. When you create music, you want to make sure your sound is flat to ensure it sounds good on all systems. Think of it as the baseline, so when someone plays your song on a boombox or a high end stereo system, your sound will be balanced (the user can always up the bass or treble).

What does a flat response actually sound like? In terms of the TMA-1 Studios, for everyday usage you probably won't notice the difference. In fact, the Studios will sound crisp and clear, much better than most standard headphones out there. For DJing, you will not notice much of a difference except a bit less bass (but still plenty enough to DJ with). The label "studio montiors" should not dissuade you from purchasing these for any application. The bottom line is that they sound great and they would be awesome to have on your desk or in the airport. Please Note that studio monitors like these are "big" headphones, they may not be the best for everyday commuters.

Reloop is proud to present its first digital mixing controller designed especially for Serato: Terminal Mix 4. By introducing the Terminal Mix 4, Reloop has broken new ground once again with this fully integrated 4-channel mixer offering a wealth of features, including 3-fold EQ with intelligent kill technique and filter modulation capabilities per channel. Any of the 4 channels can be easily assigned to the crossfader via the controls on the front panel, where you will also be able to adjust the crossfader curve.

In addition to the popular Trax Encoder, the master section is now equipped with four convenient management buttons which allow direct access to playlists, crates or further layout views without the need to touch your laptop. This means a desired track can be located and loaded instantly into any deck via the designated load buttons - a fader start* function can also be activated if desired.

As a further highlight, Reloop has developed brand new ultra-flat aluminium jog platters which with an impressive XXL diameter of 15.5 cm have also been enhanced with a non-slip vinyl-grip coating for even more control over your tracks. A microphone connection with a 1-fold EQ for MCs, hosts or singers has also been integrated and can be adjusted via a flexible routing switching system. Furthermore, it's possible to connect a turntable, CD/MP3 player, or iPhone/iPod to the Aux input which can be routed to the master or even software! OUR OPINION

Although the Pro is the most inexpensive of the Ortofon line, it still performs better than most DJ cartridges on the market. Unless you are playing at club with a large sound system, you won't notice much difference between models in terms of sound quality. The Pro is a very versatile cartridge suitable for all types of at home djing.
