Four Tet drops the sixteenth release on his highly in-demand imprint Text (seriously, every release has been truly limited and they always sell out). On "128 Harps", Four Tet demonstrate his dubstep fist, blending extra-mean beats and his signature electronic warmth. Four Tet fans hit add to cart now. Another meeting of the minds on wax. Burial and Four Tet are two names that need no introduction. Both have been at the top of their game for awhile now, and when they put their heads together, you can bet the result is gonna be something brilliant. "Nova" is their third collab 12" ("Moth/Wolf Cub" came before, and the first was with Thom Yorke) and once again the duo exceed expectations with a track that is melodic, ethereal, driving, and deep, all at once. Does this complete the trilogy? Only time will tell. Limited copies, pressed on one sided vinyl. Recommended.

Nocs sent me a review pair of the NS2 Air Monitors and I have been using them ever since. Here are my impressions:

• Setup: the NS2 creates a temporary network for setup. You'll have to enter the username and password to your wireless network to complete setup. The cord connecting the two speakers comes in (2) different lengths to fit your setup.
• Sound: the sound was refreshingly loud and robust. These trump all wireless speakers I've heard. Great bass without being overpowering.
• Perfect Size: these speakers are a great size for the modern living space. They're substantial without being too bulky. In addition, the rubberized finish and rounded corners make you want to move them around depending on the situation.
• These will literally change the way you listen to music in your home or office. NS2 Air Monitors eliminate the reliance on crappy "multimedia" speakers or docks that have become the norm. Imagine yourself coming home listening to your iPhone via headphones. Enter your home, take off the headphones and switch to AirPlay via a couple clicks and continue your musical experience. Or wake up in your bed, grab your phone and play your favorite wake-up song wirelessly.

Boddika has been absolutely murking it over the past few years. His releases with Joy Orbison have been topping charts all over the place and his Nonplus label has released a ton of 12"s from a who's who of the vanguard of UK club music: Actress, Kassem Mosse, Skudge, etc. It's only fitting that the prolific producer and label boss would be at the helm for one of this year's biggest releases. Nonplus' Think and Change is set to feature new tracks from Four Tet and Pearson Sound, as well as the official release of Joy Orbison's sought after "Big Room Tech House Dj Tool - TIP!" If this first sampler is any indication we are in for some banging tracks in the near future. "Boddika's VIP" mix of his and Joy Orbison's "Mercy" turns up the aggression on a track that has already been killing it. On the flip Boddika enlists the seductive minimalism of Kassem Mosse who's "Broken Patterns" wastes no time in getting down to business. Its looping, rave inspired synth stabs slowly percolate around an ever evolving percussion track. Recommended.

DJ Smash was one of the more influential DJs when we started the Lab. One of the drivers of the nyc's late nineties Giant Step / Blue Note scene, Smash was the DJ's DJ, breaking countless 12"s and moving diverse crowds. He's re-emerged to make noise in the Lab world again (he won a category in our remix contest) and has released this on Brooklyn's Bastard Boots. The 4 track selection are DJ-friendly re-edits and remixes of latin, funk reggae favorites from Azymuth, Deodato, Area Code (212), and Linval Thompson (a great "I Love Marijuana" rework).

Highly sought after Italian cosmic heater alert! Originally released in 1981 on the tiny Ivory Coast imprint, West African Music, both tracks offer a near minimal techno approach that proved to be way ahead of their time. Codek's "Closer" might be the pick here with its chugging rhythm, monotone vocals and deadly arpeggios. Excellently primed for the dancefloor. Flip the record over and prepare for something completely unexpected. Falsetto chants lead the way for off kilter rhythms and all manner of funky synth squiggles and punchy drum programming. Limited edition repress.

Sought-after Chicago acid repressed! Dance Tracs by Disco D (aka Larry Heard) is an early example of the raw, stripped down acid sound that would soon take over the Chicago scene and later influence all of electronic dance music (even to this day). Heard's signature drum programming can be all over this piece and tracks like "123, 122" and "121" pretty much lay the blueprint down for 'jackin' house. These beats we totally ahead of their time and still bang to this day. "Beat It" and "High Noon" take the flipside and add lush chords and driving synth melodies to the mix, sounding very much like classic Mr. Fingers tracks of the time (think "Washing Machine" or "Can You Feel It"). Original 1986 copies are hard to come by (and cost a small fortune), so get with this quality import repress while it lasts! Recommended.
